For the second year running vehicle telematics, safety and
security supplier Cobra, brought together its automotive customers
for an evening of competitive karting. The challenge took place on
Friday 29th July at Banbury's Formula Fast Karting
track.
The event was a great hit with eight major car brands fielding
teams, giving Cobra's wannabe racing star customers an opportunity
to flex their racing muscles.
Cobra customer teams from Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW Group,
McLaren, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche and Volkswagen Group UK
competed to win the lucrative Cobra Cup.
First to cross the line was the BMW Group UK team with Lee
Connolly, Daniel Elliott and Nick Jones at the wheel. The team
gelled seamlessly just as a well-oiled German ultimate driving
machine should, with well honed tactics to beat any car in front of
them during the hour long race.
Volkswagen Group UK was a close second, with Ryan Smith,
Laurence Costis and Ross Bull putting all their efforts into
beating their rivals. Third place went to Porsche Cars GB, the
four-man team of Jim Willows, James Eastwood, Alex Vaidya and Simon
Mearns, making it a German manufacturer clean sweep.
The fastest lap of the evening went to Grant Smith of the
McLaren team - a swift 34.186 seconds.
Lee Connolly of the BMW winning team announced from the podium:
'Cobra has managed to surpass itself again. This has been a
fantastic event, and I know I speak on behalf of my team and all
other participants that we really look forward to this annual event
and will be back to defend our title next year!'
Andrew Smith, Managing Director of Cobra UK said: 'We were
delighted to hold this event for the second year running and were
pleased to get all our customers together for some fun and friendly
rivalry. The playing field was highly competitive, with some great
skill coming through - F1 watch out! The Cobra Annual Karting
Challenge is the only event of its kind that brings OE marques
together, and we are looking forward to hosting it again next
year.'
