Against the backdrop of £52 million worth of commercial vehicles
and road cargo reported as stolen in 2010 by Truckpol, telematics,
safety and security supplier Cobra has teamed up with Global
Vehicle Systems to launch Global Live.
This ground breaking new live CCTV monitoring security system is
designed to protect the assets and employees of companies involved
in commercial haulage and those with mobile assets in high risk
situations. Global Live offers a number of
significant safety and security benefits for CV operators and even
the remote locking and unlocking of cargo doors to protect valuable
loads.
Designed primarily for commercial vehicle operators transporting
high value consignments including electronic goods, the in-vehicle
cameras monitor the cabin and load areas 24/7, audibly and
visually, to protect employees and assets in equal measure. Highly
trained personnel at the Cobra Secure Operating Centre (SOC) can
view in real time and download images and data to keep an eye on
vehicles both en route and when parked, and GPS tracking enables
the pinpoint location of the vehicle at any time.
Andrew Smith, Managing Director of Cobra UK Limited says,
"Global Live is a natural extension to the Cobra portfolio of
products and telematics services, building on our proven strengths
in the automotive and commercial vehicle sectors with our CobraTrak
range of stolen vehicle tracking and telematics
solutions."
"Should a vehicle equipped with Global Live technology be
subject to attack, CCTV streaming shows SOC Staff what is happening
in real time and the footage is admissible as evidence in court.
This unique live CCTV monitoring system enhances our commitment to
improve the safety and security of drivers and their loads, and
should help haulage operators negotiate substantial insurance
discounts as they lower the risk of their consignments being
stolen. Global Live is equally suitable for the monitoring and
protection of remote or unmanned sites, such as storage
depots."
According to a TruckPol report, the theft of large goods
vehicles in 2010 was up 59 per cent on the previous year (from 1604
to 2552 vehicles.) The most common freight theft involved
electronic and electrical goods such as computers and mobile
telephone equipment. Organised crime groups often have
knowledge of the areas where valuable loads will be available and
travel vast distances to carry out their crimes, the report
reveals.
Global Live's unique technology is ideally placed to help tackle
the problem. It can support a truck operator's delivery schedule,
the vehicle load doors can be locked in such a way that they are
secure and can only be opened remotely by Global Live's Secure
Operating Centre. The operating centre is advised when a
truck arrives at its scheduled destination. The SOC staff can
then check via the live feed from the CCTV cameras inside the
vehicle that the load is secure and in the correct location, only
then will the SOC staff remotely release the doors to allow the
load to be delivered.
"Cobra has long been a strategic partner of Truckpol, and we
welcome the introduction of this latest groundbreaking product,"
says DCI Mark Hooper of the Association of Chief Police Officers
Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (AVCIS), of which Truckpol is a
part. "With worries around the globe of increasing theft of and
from trucks, we welcome all enhanced security systems and measures
which can be shown to protect drivers and their loads to address
increasingly sophisticated criminal activity."
Global Live technology could radically reduce the possibility of
a load being intercepted and stolen and the current growing trend
of drivers being forced out of their cabs to hand over valuable
assets to thieves. It could also provide additional security
against people trafficking and the transportation of counterfeit
and illegal goods.
Cobra's Global Live system is a bespoke solution. The
number and position of cameras can be tailored to the needs of
individual customers and can be further personalised with the
enhancement of personal attack buttons and enhanced infra red
cameras.
